Dr. April Thompson joins the BxArts Factory board with a wealth of educational experience and a passion for the arts. Born and raised in the Bronx, she has a deep-rooted connection to the borough’s vibrant culture and rich history. As an educator leading a lower school, April has demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and instructional leadership.
April holds a bachelor’s degree from Howard University, a Master’s in Education Policy from American University, and a Doctorate in Sociology from Howard University, where her research focused on educational equality within independent schools. Her commitment to social justice and educational equity has been a constant thread throughout her career, and she is dedicated to using her skills to make a positive impact in her community.
Beyond her role in education, April is truly a creative finding joy in writing, sketching and painting. Her creative pursuits enrich her perspective and align with the BxArts Factory’s mission to promote artistic expression and cultural diversity. She brings this artistic sensibility to her role as a board member, aiming to foster an environment that encourages creativity and community connection.
As a proud Bronxite, April is excited to contribute her educational expertise and artistic passion to BxArts Factory.
