Where the Sun Splits Open: A Diasporic Hymn by Kay Poema
Kay Poema’s first solo show with work created during the BxArts Factory Artist in Residence Program.
Where the Sun Splits Open: A Diasporic Hymn, unfolds in three movements: Lineage, Fragments of Self, and The Blooming.
Working across poetry, audio, photographs, and digital and handmade collage, the installation gathers memory through multiple forms. It traces a life shaped by migration, absence, and devotion asking, “how do we remember ourselves when history scatters the record?”
This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
