En Foco and The BxArts Factory present The Story Unveiled: Illuminating Womxn’s Narratives, an exhibition hosted at The BxArts Factory from March 7 – March 31 , 2024 . The Story Unveiled highlights womxn’s stories that have often been woven into the background of history. Overshadowed by dominant narratives that fail to capture the depth and diversity of their lived experiences. Six contemporary artists employ their diverse practices to illuminate the multifaceted dimensions of womxn’s lives. Through a variety of mediums, these artists embark on a profound journey of self-discovery, intertwining their personal narratives with broader histories echoing the sentiment that the personal is indeed political.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Stephanie Ayala (she/her) – Is a New York City-based multi-dimensional artist exploring the practice of photography and glass. She is ambitious in wanting to know the range o f her potential. In order to keep o n discovering and using her choice of medium to learn through practice and research of what she sees a s light. Her work is rooted in metaphysics, curiosity and the ephemeral of life.
Lizzy Alejandro (she/her) – Is a visual artist from The Bronx. She received her MFA in Digital Media from Lehman College in 2019 . Her work explores themes of identity and challenges notions of the status quo.
Leen da Bonilla (she/her) – Is a n interdisciplinary artist, arts/cultural producer, who specializes in civic engagement and art-making practices. Leenda develops d ia ristic projects that focus o n the impact of popular culture and social tropes from her experiences in various communities. She conceptualizes to elevate the narratives of self, and residents living the local/global urban scene and intersects gender, race, identity, and age into multidisciplinary a rt to reclaim the lost narrative of her diasporic Puerto Rican heritage.
Tasha Dougé (she/her) – Is a Bronx-based, Haitian-infused artist, activist & cultural vigilante. Her body of work activates conversations around women, advocacy, sex, education, societal “ norms”, identity, and Black pride. Through conceptual art, teaching, and performance, Do ugé devotedly strives to evoke empowerment for women and illuminate the contributions of Black people.
Katherine Miranda (they/he) – Is a La tin x non-binary multidisciplinary artist. Interested in the innate way familial and communal stories are connected to ancestral lineages; Miranda ’s artistic practice is one that is deeply rooted in the idea that our histories hold both value and power.
Sofie Vasquez (she/her) – Is an Ecuadorian artist born in NYC and raised in The Bronx. Sofie began photographing the independent professional wrestling scene in her borough which led to committing five years of her life dedicated to solely documenting this subculture statewide.
