Description of project: The objective of this project is to engage a selected group of High School Students, that are passionate and committed to their artistic creation, to participate in a hands-on experiential eight-week program. The program will guide and prepare them to develop an artistic life and habits, prepare a college competitive art portfolio and eventually prepare them to conduct interviews with higher education institution in hopes to join an arts program as a career path.

At the end of the pilot project students should be able to:
1. Describe and understand the creative process and art techniques used by visiting or resident artists
2. Understand the process and practice of creating an art exhibition
3. Complete a series of art pieces based on a concept develop by themselves
4. Understand the process and practice on how to include their artwork into an artist portfolio
5. Describe their own creative process and artwork during the art exhibition
Artist Commitment – Candidates must be available to work Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, One Hour each day after school for 8 weeks starting at the beginning of Spring 2018 (March). You must be available an additional 45 – 60 minutes per week for planning and/or feedback meetings. As part of the program we will have 3 trips to visit artists studios, galleries and art schools, you are expected to attend this trips with the class. We will be providing the pacing calendar and work with you to develop the curriculum. You are expected to provide one pager lesson plans to include: what are the students expected to do, what are you expected to teach, resources that you will use, how do you plan to give feedback and/assess that the goal was achieved. We are also providing art materials.
Mentor Curator: Alexis Mendoza, Co-Founder,Art Director & Head Curator of BxArts Factory
You will have the opportunity to work hand in hand with an experienced curator. He will evaluate and select work and give portfolio feedback to each student. He will select the artwork from the portfolios and guide the students as they curate and plan their own art exhibition.
Finalist will have an interview with the BxArts Factory Team for final selection.
Requirements: Visual Artist, Experience Teaching, Strong Communicator, Classroom Management Skills, Good Attendance, Punctuality, Flexible, Organizational Skills, Collaborator, NYC Based artist, 21 y.o. or older, Highly Preferred if NYC DOE Fingerprinted
Work will take place at MS/HS 223 The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology 360 E 145th St, Bronx, NY 10454
Class of 10 to 15 Sophomore/Junior High School Students
Stipend: $1,000 (Payment will be distributed as follows- $500 after the first four weeks and the additional $500 after the eighth week). We will have a debriefing meeting one to two weeks after the end of the project.
