Studio 11 Residency: BxArts Factory Members Edition

Introduction:
This edition of our Artist in Residency Program is very unique as we will be giving the opportunity for a BxArts Factory member, past or present, to join us for a three-month occupancy in our Studio 11 to produce a unique body of work that will be shown to our community. The program will run from April through June 2020 with an exhibition in July 2020. The work will be exhibited in our Studio 13 Gallery located at our offices at Spaceworks, South Bronx.
Call for Artist:
We are looking for current and former BxArts Factory members (Advisory Members, Staff, Participating Artists or Volunteers) to join us for a three-month residency that will include facilitating a workshop and displaying your work in a month-long exhibition. The applicant must have experience teaching workshops to families (adults and children audience) and have an artistic practice. Applicants must be 21 years or older that work on a variety of mediums or different artistic genres. Applicants must be available to work at Studio 11 during the entire duration of this residency
Your Participation:
Part of the Artist in Residency commitment will include:
– working at the studio every week for the duration of the residency to ensure the completion of work for exhibition. Artists will be asked to keep a log of hours. (a minimum of 10 hours a week)
– checking in with BxArts Factory in a bi-weekly basis and
– collaborating with our curators to develop the full concept for the exhibition
– facilitating at least one workshop with the community (children and/or adults)
Resident will be provided with $250 for materials which an be provided via reimbursement or direct online purchase. We will also schedule a visit to Materials for the Arts if requested.
Upon selection and prior to the start of the residency, the chosen artist will be required to:
– sign a commitment letter (will be reviewed together during one of our initial meetings)
– sign a space-user agreement (as required by Spaceworks) and
Upon completion of the Program, the Artist in Residency will be asked to complete an evaluation/reflection form to provide feedback of their participation and help us improve and grow the Program.

Studio 11 Details:
Studio 11 is one of three studios that form the BxArt Factory space within the Spaceworks, South Bronx facilities at 240 E 153rd Street, Bronx NY. The space has 24/7 access and ramp access with automatic doors. The facility have shared spaces: bathrooms, kitchenette and cleaning area with a slop sink. The studio is 96 sf and has great natural lighting because it has a wide glass window. The studio also has a desk and chair. The studio space is great for small scale work. The space is not appropriate for work with power tools, work bigger than 6 feet or heavy work/structures. Please consider the space details when thinking about the work you would like to produce during this residency
