Bronx Cranksgiving, a scavenger hunt-style food drive on bikes, started in 2016 to connect the NYC cycling community with Bronx residents in need and to raise awareness of cycling in and around The Bronx. In 2023, due to a rise in community fridges, mutual aid groups, riding clubs, and the additional challenges of hosting the event, the difficult decision was made to pause any future Bronx Cranksgivings. However, given the current circumstances, more Bronx residents are expected to face food insecurity. Therefore, a last-minute emergency relief event has been organized to help ease the burden on our community.
NOTE: For this event, you will need to register when you arrive at the site. This is not a valid registration, but it is helpful to remember where and when this is happening.
Some history that should be told, Cranksgiving was started by NYC bike messengers in 1999 as an alley cat, an unsanctioned bicycle race. Since then, it has grown to over 100 events around the globe, with Cranksgiving NYC happening on Nov. 22nd, and hosted by @nycbma . Info on other events can be found at @cranksgiving.
