Art Time! A Collaboration Project with BronxNet TV

Virtual Events, Workshop Series
We were faced with many difficult decisions, in quick succession during a short period of time. But not all of them were bad or hard choices. The pandemic also presented us with opportunities to focus on projects we had put away in our creative vault for one reason or another. Through the stillness of the initial period of lockdown, we were able to reconnect with several of those old ideas around building out a virtual presence for BxArts Factory. Now, with the help of BronxNet, we’re finally ready with our first round of content. This initial series centers on creating a visual archive of Bronx artists and features small glimpses of their work through interactive projects that the public can do at home. We are very proud of this series, and it is only a start for this great partnership between Bronxnet and BxArts Factory.
There are two episodes already available for you to watch and Episode three is premiering this Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at 2 pm! You can watch on BX OMNI channels 67 optimum/2133 Fios and Stream Online at BronxNet.tv/Watch
Then stay tuned for a new episode on the third Saturday of each month at 2 pm! We have a great lineup of Bronx Artists and many great art stories and tutorials! Connect via Social Media to see who is our March artist!

Interpretations in Texture
Virtual Exhibition on View from Thursday, January 5th to Friday, February 12th, 2021
Interpretations in Texture, curated by Tiffanee E. Thompson, is a group virtual exhibition, presented by BxArts Factory, that explores the many ways that we interpret our lives. Through printmaking and the incredible eye of our strong female-led lineup, you, our audience, will have the opportunity to step into how their imagination and personal experiences have developed into works of art that is both relatable and pushes the boundaries of the limitations of life. Mixed with symbolism, collage, historical context, cultural context and the beautiful uses of color, shading and shadow we can explore artwork that honors personal interpretation and experiences with universal themes such as family, immigration, pain, joy, motherhood, design and imagination.
This exhibition will take you on a journey of how important it is to understand the process of creation, the experience of the artist and how that experience has impacted the way in which they share their life’s work with us all.
Participating Artists:
Luanda Lozano
Palén Obesa

Meet the Artists!
Vanesa Alvarez:Vanesa Álvarez is a Spanish visual artist and muralist based in Brooklyn. She has a degree in plastic arts and design and works as a creator in graphics, performing arts, fashion, poetry, and urban art.

Álvarez has made large-scale murals in Spain and New York, photography and graphic exhibitions in art galleries in Spain and Portugal, and poetic actions in Mexico, too. She loves to work with kids in art workshops and collaborative murals. Álvarez has published an illustrated two books for children.

Álvarez is a co-director of the International Kerouac Festival of Poetry and Performance, which has been a platform for the exchange artist between America and Europe for 10 years.

In all her art and murals there is a search for equality, the empowerment of women, and creation as the future and union of the community, and that is the reason because she works in NYC as Public Art teacher with LeAp in the Bronx, and like an artist in residence with Project Art in Bushwick Public Library.

He has practiced poetic action, performance and spoken word, with or without music since 2005.   In addition to recitals and open mics, he has organized the Kerouac Poetry and Performance Festival, in Vigo since 2010, in New York since 2016 and in Mexico City since 2019.  In 2015 he published “Las Partículas Brillantes”, his first printed collection of poems, designed by visual artist Vanesa Álvarez.  In 2016 he presented his book at the Bowery Poetry Club -the only Spanish poet to do so- and at the Cervantes Institute in New York.  In 2017 he published the album “Isla Futura” with the band Pólvora, where he mixes spoken word and electronic music.  In 2018 he presented the project “Lorca 2018”, with guitarist Aldo Pérez, an updated review of “Poeta en Nueva York”, and published “La Nueva Sensibilidad”, a poetic manifesto on the meaning of poetry in our days.   In 2019 he is included in “Luna y Panorama sobre los rascacielos”, the anthology of Spanish poets in New York edited by the Spanish Consulate.  This year he also launched “Se Buscan Poetas” and “This is Poesía”, two bilingual poetry events in Manhattan. In 2020 he is invited to recite at the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana, in Mexico, and is included in the anthology of Hispanic poetry in New York FILNY.
