COVID-19 Response: Emergency Funds to Support Artists/Volunteers

BxArts Factory is an organization supported by many artists.  Since our launch five years ago, numerous artists have shaped and sustained our mission by donating their work and time to help us bring art to communities throughout the Bronx and New York City. Now it is our turn to help them.

As the spread of the coronavirus intensifies throughout NYC, the need for heightened social distancing to limit the transmission of the virus means many freelance artists will lose their main sources of income.  Upon learning that a few of the artists in our BxArts Factory family are already struggling, our team decided to reach out to ask for your help. We’ve launched an emergency fund through [Go Fund Me], which will make proceeds available to artists through an online application process. At this time, all donations will be geared towards artists that are part of the BxArts Factory family. Specifically, artists that are currently, or, have been:

  • BxArts Factory Advisory Committee members;
  • BxArts Factory teaching artists;
  • BxArts Factory’s resident artists; or
  • BxArts Factory volunteers;
Additionally, artists who have participated in any of our exhibits or who have worked at any of our events may apply as well.

While submission of an application does not guarantee monetary support, once the campaign begins to accumulate donations, we will be in contact with selected artists to make funds available. Ruddy Mejia: Wearable Art for our Anniversary Party

With only few days left until we blow the candles out and make our big birthday wish, BxArts Factory is hard at work fashioning what will be a fascinating night.
Ruddy Mejia a self taught Bronx artist, a place that for him, “provided the perfect blend of influences.. to translate his passion into pieces of artwork that document, question, and demand deep observation[,]” will be converting collaborative pieces that move art from frames that live on walls to work that can be worn in the form of hard-pressed buttons.
Rudy is currently the Art Specialist at Bronx House Inc. and has most recently participated in “Outside the Box,” an event curated by Lady K. Fever.  Also joining Ruddy we will have Eric Mendoza who is a local Graphic Designer.
Supporters will walkout with a hand made piece and make our birthday wish come true; contributing to our fundraising goal for the evening.
Contributions collected this night will directly fund our 2017 free programs such as Nesting the Arts Project, among many others!

12×12 Ways of Sustainability: How You Can Make the Holidays Home Again

In a time where big box stores threaten local economies, holidays have become the battle ground for sustainable growth in our communities. Instead of gifting iPads and other popular branded store- bought items, what about gifting  hand crafted art? Our anniversary event, will provide an opportunity to gift a one of kind present.
For the last two years, BxArts Factory has held on exhibition an amazing collection of 12×12 pieces created by talented artists from the Bronx and beyond.  We are fortunate enough to have a few pieces left, but we must return unsold pieces to their creators soon.
Our 12×12 pieces will be available for purchase during our Anniversary event. Each purchase not only supports a local artist and a local economy, but it also  contribute to our fundraiser goal for 2017 and bringing arts programming to local community members.

BxArts Factory 2nd Anniversary Featured Artist: KayLove

Karen KayLove Pedrosa: Graffiti and Miniature Trains 
We have so many things to look forward to! Our anniversary is revved up to be another amazing birthday.  Today, we introduce you to one of the many wonderful entertainers whose live artistry will be featured before we cut the cake, KayLove.  Karen KayLove Pedrosa is an Advisory Board Member and a “Bronx born and based, first generation Puerto Rican artist who draws her inspiration from the vibrant, gritty, soulful streets of New York City, the lush campos of Puerto Rico and all the places in between.” Her medium of choice is graffiti, “A child of the 80’s, she was inspired by the museums that the trains provided, the roof tops murals, tags and colors that brightened up a once dirty and dingy Bronx.” At our birthday party, she will be bombing* the tags** of supporters that purchase the experience, on the side of miniature trains.
Supporters will have a unique, KayLove piece and contribute to our fundraising goal for the evening.

Donation Drive: Help us Get a Space! Contribute to our Crowdfunding Campaign

November 5 – December 24
In December 2014, a group of Bronx community members launched a new non-profit dedicated to making the arts accessible to residents of The Bronx. Inspired by their unique, but, also, similar experiences with art and creativity, BxArts Factory represent a shared vision to facilitate a vibrant space for artists to create and share their work. Over the past nine months, our programming has included film screenings, panels, poetry presentations, outdoor community engagement and art events and educational and networking activities for artists and residents. And while we managed to do all of this without a space, we’d like to have a permanent location of our own to host you and your neighbors. We are raising money to obtain our space. This year, we plan to expand our programming in big and important ways. We plan to have a series of hands-on skill-developing workshops for local youths and other community members, art exhibitions focused on topics like gentrification, nostalgia and the misplacement of memories in immigrant populations, government surveillance, etc. via film screenings, panel discussions, and outdoor events all free of cost to community members. Our new space will be a place where the community and artists can work together. With a variety of art and culture related events we can have an impactful year in The Bronx. We would love for you to join us in bringing art to every household! Help us reach our goal!

Your contribution to our campaign will help us with the following:

  1.  It will provide funds to pay rent for a year in a location in the Bronx.
  2. It will provide us with funds to have a series of art related workshops for youth, young children and adults.
  3. It will provide us with funds to have 2 art exhibitions and related programming such as panels, film screenings and community engagement events.
  4. It will help us with our partnership with Beyond Organic Design in creating opportunities for children and parents to get involved with permaculture and gardens.
  5. It will help us create an open community space so community members and Bronx artists can come create.

Art at the Bar

Come join us this summer as we drink and draw, network and have fun!
Spend the Sunday afternoons (4 to 8 p.m.) in July in the Bronx with BxArts Factory and the Gun Hill Brewery!
We will have live models to draw, music, contests and many other cool things to do!  For the next three Sundays, July 12th, 19th and 26th, BxArts Factory brings you Art at the Bar, and the option to showcase your artwork for a week at the Brewery. After a very successful Fundraiser, we can’t wait to keep working together to bring to The Bronx Art events and new opportunities for artists!

2nd 12″x12″ Fundraising Art Exhibition!

Join us on Saturday, May 16th from 5 to 10 pm at BronxArts Space (305 E 140th St Apt 1A Bronx, New York) and help us raise funds to restore our, soon to be open, cultural space on 148th and Brook Avenue! We have gathered more than 82 artists and almost 200 pieces of art work and it will all be on sale for a flat rate of $200 each (plus taxes)!!! 40% of the money going directly to the artist and 60% will be your contribution to BxArts Factory!

Why are we asking for your help?  Our future space needs some tender love and care and we need your help to make it happen! Our last event was a great success and you just can’t miss this one! Come on by and enjoy of cool music by DeeJaySoul (Ignacio Soltero), selfie-station, raffle with great prices, great company and lots of great artwork!

You are Invited: BxArts Factory’s Fundraising Exhibition

Location: Gun Hill Brewing Company 3227 Laconia Ave, Bronx, NY 10469

BxArts Factory is pleased to announce their first international small format fundraising exhibit 12”X12”.  The event will take place at the Gun Hill Brewing Company on Saturday, April 18th from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

12”X12” is a compilation of artworks created by renowned and up and coming international and local artists in multiple mediums.  We have over 150 pieces from artists in Mexico, Indonesia, Germany, Spain, and, of course, local Bronx and NYC artists!

If you don’t own a piece of artwork or if you are a collector, this is an amazing opportunity to buy some art.  You’ll also be contributing to the fund to renovate our, soon to be, space near The Hub in The Bronx! It is a win-win situation!

The BxArts Factory’s new space will be an incubator for Bronx artists to grow, collaborate and create.  We will be a multipurpose space that will include: an art research center, resident artists’ studios, performance space, classrooms and gallery space. The BxArts Factory endeavors to become a preeminent Arts institution in The Bronx, dedicated to the promotion and use of the Arts as a vital tool to inspire artists and communities within the borough to contribute to the social and economic development of The Bronx.  Help us reach our goal!

The evening will be filled with music, art, and a great vibe! Entertainment will be provided by local Bronx talents Elena Rosa Music, 2 in the Afternoon and Eve’s Fault, among other surprise performances.  Additionally, guests will be able to enjoy live art by local artists, caricatures by Kenly Dillard and Pablo D. Martinez, a selfie station, and many other fun surprises! We will also have local food truck Antojitos Mexicanos joining the festivities just outside the brewery!
