Kay Poema

Kay Poema is an interdisciplinary artist, poet, and educator whose work bridges language and image to explore themes of memory, identity, and transformation. The author of Cry Sweat Bleed Write (Lily Poetry Review Books, 2020) and Diary of Intercessor (Finishing Line Press, 2021), she served as the Bronx Poet Laureate from 2023 to 2025. Kay’s digital art extends her poetic practice, creating layered visual narratives that reimagine healing, belonging, and ancestral memory. She earned her MFA from the City College of New York, where she is an adjunct professor in the English department and an Academic Advisor in the Division of Humanities and the Arts. Kay lives and creates in the South Bronx, where community, motherhood, and artistry converge in her work.
