Too cold outside? Stay in and do art at The Creative Corner!!
The Creative Corner is a concept created by Bronx artists Ruddy Mejia as a way to connect with his students during remote learning.  This summer Ruddy joined forces with Laura Alvarez to bring you the Summer edition of this project.   We love providing families with some great activities to do at home that only require a few materials easily found at home.
This Fall we are back with this cool series of easy and family friendly art activities! We will bring you weekly videos on Wednesdays and Fridays!  They premiere each day at 3:30 pm on our YouTube Channel.  We have two new artists joining us, Vanesa Alvarez and Marcos De la Fuente.  Read more below to get to know them!

Meet the Artists!
Vanesa Alvarez:Vanesa Álvarez is a Spanish visual artist and muralist based in Brooklyn. She has a degree in plastic arts and design and works as a creator in graphics, performing arts, fashion, poetry, and urban art.

Álvarez has made large-scale murals in Spain and New York, photography and graphic exhibitions in art galleries in Spain and Portugal, and poetic actions in Mexico, too. She loves to work with kids in art workshops and collaborative murals. Álvarez has published an illustrated two books for children.

Álvarez is a co-director of the International Kerouac Festival of Poetry and Performance, which has been a platform for the exchange artist between America and Europe for 10 years.

In all her art and murals there is a search for equality, the empowerment of women, and creation as the future and union of the community, and that is the reason because she works in NYC as Public Art teacher with LeAp in the Bronx, and like an artist in residence with Project Art in Bushwick Public Library.

Marcos de la Fuente.

He was born in Vigo, Spain, in July 1976. Poet, physiotherapist and cultural activist and organizer. His writing is influenced by Cortazar, León Felipe, Ginsberg or Kavafis.  His thoughts are also influenced by Herman Hesse, Kundera, Fromm or Nietzsche and his rhythm by The Doors, Massive Attack, Coltrane or Gil Scott-Heron. He has practiced poetic action, performance and spoken word, with or without music since 2005.   In addition to recitals and open mics, he has organized the Kerouac Poetry and Performance Festival, in Vigo since 2010, in New York since 2016 and in Mexico City since 2019.  In 2015 he published “Las Partículas Brillantes”, his first printed collection of poems, designed by visual artist Vanesa Álvarez.  In 2016 he presented his book at the Bowery Poetry Club -the only Spanish poet to do so- and at the Cervantes Institute in New York.  In 2017 he published the album “Isla Futura” with the band Pólvora, where he mixes spoken word and electronic music.  In 2018 he presented the project “Lorca 2018”, with guitarist Aldo Pérez, an updated review of “Poeta en Nueva York”, and published “La Nueva Sensibilidad”, a poetic manifesto on the meaning of poetry in our days.   In 2019 he is included in “Luna y Panorama sobre los rascacielos”, the anthology of Spanish poets in New York edited by the Spanish Consulate.  This year he also launched “Se Buscan Poetas” and “This is Poesía”, two bilingual poetry events in Manhattan. In 2020 he is invited to recite at the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana, in Mexico, and is included in the anthology of Hispanic poetry in New York FILNY.
